The Hand of Fatima

Description

The hamsa hand (Arabic) or hamesh hand (Hebrew) is an old and still popular apotropaic amulet for magical protection from the envious or evil eye. The words hamsa and hamesh mean "five" and refer to the digits on the hand. An alternative Islamic name for this charm is the Hand of Fatima, in reference to the daughter of Mohammed. An alternative Jewish name for it is the Hand of Miriam, in reference to the sister of Moses and Aaron.

I'm not supersticious, but I've always liked the Hand of Fatima amulet. I have a nice very filigran silver pendant of it. Or more like, I had it until I moved. I'm still hoping it will show up again... If you want to read up more about the Hand of Fatima I'd recommend the following site: [link]

Got the idea for this image some two or three weeks ago and it was far longer in the making than I thought it would. I had to take several breaks from it since I was just getting too frustrated because it didn't work out as I wanted it too.
I'm still not satisfied with the result, but it's close enough to what I wanted it to look like so I'll leave it be. I might still change it around a bit later, so I'm open for constructive criticism. ;)
